Düsseldorf: Leisure – Shopping – Culture
Königsallee (KÖ) – Brand Names and Luxury
For a leisurely stroll or window shopping, you will enjoy the street of the rich and famous. Only a few minutes’ walk away from the hotel you will reach the city’s famous shopping street. On
Königsallee - in short “KÖ” – you will find all the top brand names and labels in shopping malls and exclusive boutiques. Armani, JOOP, Jil Sander, Prada and Kenzo are just a few of the brands you will find in the large number of fashion shops.
On the north end of Königsallee visitors get to
Schadowstraße,Germany’s number 1 shopping street in terms of turnover. Impressive stores, stylish fashion boutiques and numerous small and big shoe shops are situated in its neighborhood.

Historic District of Düsseldorf…

The
historic district of Düsseldorf has become famous beyond city boundaries and is known as “the world’s longest bar”. More than 260 pubs, restaurants and bars welcome visitors from all over the world. There are traditional breweries, trendy bars, nightclubs, international pubs and traditional restaurants: the historic city offers a culinary variety that is unrivalled.
Naturally, this is a shopper’s heaven. The area is different to the KÖ, however. It is THE shopping area for bargain hunters and fashion addicts. Small boutiques, second hand shops, large clothing chains and designer labels have found a home for themselves. Many shops offer – often for little money – trendy fashion, as well as unusual jewelry and accessories.
Around Carlsplatz the visitor will find the most unusual and interesting shops in numerous alleyways and cosy shopping malls. The Düsseldorf
Carlsplatz, which used to be the farmers’ market square, has developed into a true paradise for gourmets.
Culture and Points of Interest…
How about some culture and art? Düsseldorf offers an impressive variety. Situated on the river Rhine,
Deutsche Operoffers opera, musical comedies and ballet. The
Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus specializes in theater performances. For classic concerts, jazz and pop music the
Tonhalle Düsseldorf is the place to go to. For cabaret lovers, the
Kom(m)ödchen is the first choice. Founded in 1946, it is Germany’s oldest stage of its kind. If you prefer comedies and modern theater, you will enjoy the
Theater an der Kö. The music theater Capitol is the place to go to for musicals. Our tip if you still haven’t found the right place for your taste: The
Marionetten-Theater-Düsseldorf (puppet theater) in Palais Wittgenstein, which was founded in 1956.

Museums and Exhibitions…
Düsseldorf offers a large variety of museums and exhibitions for every taste and interest.
The
film museum, which also houses a cinema, you will find in Carlstadt. The
Goethe Museum is accommodated in Schloß Jägerhof (palace). Naturally, to honor the most famous son of Düsseldorf, south of the historic district there is a
Heinrich Heine Institut. For further museums and exhibitions we refer you to the websites of
Museums in Düsseldorf.
Parks...
Visitors who like to go for walks or enjoy places of peace and quiet will find some beautiful parks in Düsseldorf. We recommend, among others, the Botanical Garden, Florapark, Hanielpark, Kögraben, Ostpark, Wildpark, Gräfenberger Wald and various palace gardens. In particular Hofgarten, Jacobigarten, Spee’scher Graben, Nordpark with Japanese gardens, Südpark, the park at Ständehaus, Heltorf Park and Schlosspark Benrath are always worth a visit. Because of their exceptional quality and significance, these parks and gardens have been listed in “Straßen der Gartenkunst” since 2004.
