Düsseldorf: Always worth a Trip…
Situated on the Lower Rhine in the region Bergisches Land, Düsseldorf is the capital of Northrhine-Westfalia. The Rhine metropolis with about 600,000 inhabitants has made a name for itself for its economic strength. It is famous for its modern city landscape and a haven for art and culture lovers.
Düsseldorf’s biggest selling point is certainly its
Carnival. The Rosenmontagszug (carnaval parade) and the proverbial “Rheinische Frohnatur” (cheerful locals) are well-known beyond city boundaries. It is for this reason that Düsseldorf is considered Germany’s carnaval center.
Düsseldorf: Interesting Facts & Figures

Düsseldorf consists of 10 urban districts with a total of 49 boroughs. It covers an area of 217 sqkm and has the title of „kreisfreie Stadt“ (city with its own government). Duisburg, Ratingen, Mettmann, Erkrath, Hilden, Langenfeld, Monheim am Rhein, Dormagen, Neuss and Meerbusch are neighboring cities.
Historically, Düsseldorf was first mentioned in the year 1135 and was ruled by Emperor Barbarossa I. A place called Kaiserwerth north of the city was then used as an outpost. This was the soldiers’ observation point. In the year 1229 Kaiserwerth became part of Düsseldorf. On 14 August 1288 Earl Adolf V. von Berg awarded Düsseldorf the title of a city. Prior to that, the Earl and the Archbishop of Cologne shed a lot of blood in the struggle for power. This fighting ended in the battle of Woringen, which lead to the defeat of the Archbishop’s army.
Düsseldorf has a number of sister-city arrangements. Since 1947, Reading in England has been one of their sister-cities. Haifa in Israel has been twinned with Düsseldorf since 1978, Warsaw in Poland since 1989, Moscow in Russia since 1992 and Chongquing in China since 2004. Düsseldorf is also twinned with a German city. Chemnitz has been a sister city since 1988.
When you take a stroll from the centrally situated hotel through downtown Düsseldorf, you cannot fail to see: Düsseldorf has developed into a varied and lucrative place for shopping centers and shops of all kinds and sizes. In particular in the field of fashion Düsseldorf has been able to secure a leading position. This is partly due to the fashion shows and the two big trading companies P& C and C&A, which established their sites here.
